Indian state mulls SAF policy to attract investment: Reports
India’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh is working on launching a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) policy to attract investment in the sector.
The Uttar Pradesh Sustainable Aviation Fuel Manufacturing Promotion Policy-2025 will be the first of a kind in the country with goal to position the state as the manufacturing hub for SAF.
The policy was announced by state’s chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh on the sidelines of Invest UP event. The policy details were shared during the day in a roundtable where representatives from the private sector also confirmed their willingness to invest in the sector.
Singh stressed that the policy will include provisions to incentivise businesses, fast track government support including support for sourcing feedstocks. He said that the policy will have significant benefits for the domestic farm sector since the need for biomass and grain-based feedstock for SAF production will open new market for products.
“This policy not only supports our shift to clean energy, but also makes sure our farmers benefit directly by increasing their income and contributing to a greener future,” the secretary was quoted as saying.
Nearly 18 companies including major firms have shown their willingness to invest in the SAF sector. The reports said that investment commitments to the tune of Rs3,000 crore have been received by the state.
