The Tokyo Metropolitan Government said it has selected Hankyu Hanshin Express as a cargo agent to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in air cargo transport.

This is part of Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “Project to Promote the Use of SAF in Air Cargo Transport for Companies to Address Scope 3”.

On July 23, Hankyu Hanshin was selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as one of the cargo agents promoting air cargo transport using SAF to help companies registered in Tokyo reduce their CO2 emissions.

The Japanese government is asking companies to reduce CO2 emissions by reducing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions to cut down on indirect emissions associated with energy use and supply chain for transporting its own products.

Hankyu said that it will benefit from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government programme to subsidise the additional costs incurred when using SAF through cargo agents for companies registered in Tokyo that transport air cargo using SAF. Our company has now applied for and been selected for this program for fiscal 2025.

As a result, companies in Tokyo that use SAF for air cargo transport through our company during the subsidy period from July 2025 to March 2026 will be issued a “CO2 Reduction Certificate” and will be subsidised for the additional costs incurred when using SAF.
