Singapore Airlines (SIA) agree to offtake up to 4,800 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Aether Fuels. The SAF will be produced at Aether’s Project Beacon facility, commencing in 2028. The agreement is for deliveries over a three-year period.

SIA is the first offtaker for Project Beacon, located at Aster’s refining complex at Pulau Bukom, Singapore. This is also the first agreement for the airline to take SAF delivery from advanced waste carbon feedstocks. This agreement comes off the back of an MoU between the two companies signed last year.

“Supporting the development and adoption of SAF, and securing future supplies, are integral to SIA’s ambition of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050,” says Lee Wen Fen, chief sustainability officer, Singapore Airlines. “As the first airline to purchase SAF from Project Beacon, SIA is demonstrating demand for new lower-carbon fuel production pathways in Singapore. We will continue to work with partners globally to scale SAF production, strengthen the aviation industry’s sustainability ecosystem, and support the transition to more sustainable air travel.”

Aether Fuels technology refines biomethane and industrial waste gases using the company’s Aether Aurora technology. The company plans to start up its first commercial scale facility by 2031, which will have a production capacity 10 times larger than Project Beacon.

“Singapore is building a strong ecosystem for aviation decarbonization through refining and aviation infrastructure, investment support, sustainability policies, and utilising their position as a global aviation hub,” says Conor Madigan, co-founder and CEO, Aether Fuels. “This binding agreement is an important next step and a strong signal of committed demand from a leading global airline – exactly the type of collaboration needed to create the commercial conditions to bring new SAF pathways to scale.”
