Kuehne+Nagel, LATAM, and Elite Flower decarbonise flower transport for Valentine’s Day
Kuehne+Nagel, LATAM Cargo, and The Elite Flower used sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to decarbonise flights carrying about 495 tonnes of Colombian flowers from Bogota to Miami for Valentine’s Day using book and claim.
The Elite Flower transports nearly 40m stems through LATAM Cargo every year.
“The incorporation of SAF into our logistics processes enables us to advance in reducing the carbon footprint of air transport, without compromising the quality or timeliness of our flower deliveries. This type of initiative reflects our contribution to a more sustainable floriculture industry, where operational efficiency and environmental care go hand in hand,” said Alvaro Camacho, logistics manager at The Elite Flower.
The three firms said this was their largest SAF-based operation to date in Latin America, reducing about 300 tonnes of CO2.
“Collaborating with our partners generates and drives positive and innovative changes in important industries like perishables and air logistics, where reducing carbon emissions is essential,” explains Ana San Carlos, sustainability manager for Latin America at Kuehne+Nagel.
Valentine’s Day is one of the floriculture industry’s most important seasons.
