Nippon Paper, Sumitomo Corporation and Green Earth Institute are looking into making bioethanol from wood waste that could be converted to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The three companies are looking at using waste from Nippon Paper’s mills. If the project goes ahead it could be producing SAF by 2027.

Nippon Paper believes it can use its existing pulp and paper manufacturing process to create feedstock. Green Earth Institute would build and run the production plant.
