Indian energy transition solutions provider AM Green Technology and Solutions announced the acquisition of Finnish Chempolis Oy and Fortum 3 B.V. with plans invest $1bn in developing large-scale biorefineries to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

AM Green plans to produce SAF through the alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) process using Chempolis’ 15-year experience in processing of 2G ligno-cellulosic feedstocks. Chempolis technology will allow conversion of various waste materials into high-value green chemicals and products, such as ethanol, furfural, and lignin.

By 2027, AM Green aims to have a capacity of over 0.5m tons per annum of SAF production.

“We are excited to partner with Chempolis to advance the processing of 2G ligno-cellulosic feedstocks. This highlights our commitment to develop innovative, technology enabled solutions to establish large-scale bio refineries that utilise multiple feedstocks & produce high-value green products enabling global decarbonisation in aviation, fuels, chemicals, and other industrial sectors,” said Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Green.

AM Green said that the acquisition of Chempolis aligns with the company’s commitment to developing innovative solutions for global decarbonisation.

By leveraging Chempolis’ technology, AM Green will be able to process a wider range of feedstocks and produce a variety of green products tailored for different industries.

AM Green said it will collaborate with partners worldwide to establish a global biorefinery ecosystem to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions and contribute to a more sustainable future.
