Sustainable energy solutions provider Haffner Energy announced that has joined forces with France’s leading bamboo provider Bambbco to diversify their biomass procurement.

“We are happy to engage with Bambbco and develop biomass-to-energy projects in locations that would otherwise not be suitable. Barren areas can be brought back to  life with robust energy crops and our technology,” said Marcella Franchi, chief marketing officer, Haffner Energy. “We can’t wait to show visitors the new bamboo plantation at our new center in Marolles (Marne County, France). The plants can be used on location, among various feedstocks, to produce renewable syngas and hydrogen, and they will beautify the site.”

The partnership aims to increase the availability of biomass for energy applications, especially from crops grown on marginal land.

Haffner Energy and Bambbco’s partnership offers a turnkey solution for the production of green energy. By combining Haffner Energy’s technology with Bambbco’s expertise in bamboo cultivation, they can ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of biomass.

Meanwhile, Bambbco CEO Pierre-Alexandre Lemarquis said: “I am excited about the forward-looking approach that Haffner Energy is taking with regard to biomass procurement. Together, we’ll be able to develop local, circular economy-based ecosystems for clean fuels production projects.”

This collaboration aligns with Haffner Energy’s broader strategy to diversify its biomass procurement, as demonstrated by its previous partnership with Hexas in the United States.

Traditional biomass sources often face conflicts of use, but by utilising regenerative crops like bamboo, they can secure a more sustainable and conflict-free supply. Bamboo, known for its rapid growth and resilience, is an ideal candidate for cultivation on marginal land.

Haffner Energy’s innovative thermolysis technology converts biomass and organic waste into renewable hydrogen, clean fuels, biocarbon, and biogenic CO2. This technology provides a sustainable and efficient way to produce energy while also contributing to carbon sequestration.

Bambbco is working on utilising bamboo for various applications, including renewable energy, carbon sequestration, and soil erosion prevention.

The environmental benefits of this partnership are significant. By cultivating bamboo on marginal land, they can capture CO2 through photosynthesis and sequester it in biocarbon. Additionally, Haffner Energy’s technology further contributes to carbon sequestration by producing biogenic CO2. This approach not only helps mitigate climate change but also regenerates degraded lands and creates value through sustainable agriculture.
