Sweden’s Jord, Vition team up to produce SAF from C4-grass

Swedish solid biofuel and biochar producer Jord and feedstock-flexible biorefining technology developer Votion Biorefineries have teamed up to convert Jord’s sustainable C4-grass biomass into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
“At Jord, we are committed to rebalancing the carbon cycle and fostering sustainable growth in communities where we operate. Partnering with Votion Biorefineries allows us to expand the impact of our C4 grass biomass and take a significant step toward transforming global energy systems,” said Anders Edling Hultgren, CEO, Votion Biorefineries.
Through the partnership, the two firms plan to develop a joint offering that combines the expertise of both firms including the biomass and refining technologies.
In addition, the agreement also envisages exploring opportunities for establishing Votion’s biorefineries in Jord’s production regions, creating localized supply chains and reducing emissions from transport.
The two firms plan to commission the first biomass-to-crude (BTC) facility within eight years, targeting markets heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
Jord specializes in cultivating C4-grass biomass and solid biofuels, grown on marginal or degraded lands in Senegal and the Dominican Republic.
Votion Biorefineries, founded in 2022, is working on the technology to develop scalable and feedstock-flexible biorefinery technologies.
