Asian regional airline Bangkok Airways announced that it has signed an agreement with Bangkok’s PTT Oil and Retail Business to use domestically-produced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its flight operations.

The fuel will help meet the airline’s sustainability targets.

“This marks another significant step for Bangkok Airways in collaboration with OR to elevate Thailand’s aviation industry toward a green flight path by using SAF produced domestically for the first time in Thailand,” said Dechit Chareonwong, senior executive vice president of operations at Bangkok Airways.

PTT Global Chemical has developed innovative products and sustainable technology for SAF blending through the co-processing method – used for the first time in the aviation industry to support Thailand’s future SAF implementation policies.

[PTT Oil and Retail] OR is proud to be part of this important collaboration and is committed to supporting Thailand’s aviation industry toward sustainability by supplying SAF to Bangkok Airways,” said Chaipruet Watchareekhup, aviation and marine marketing manager at PTT Oil and Retail.

This agreement builds on the earlier announced by the two companies in 2024 to use SAF as part of its ‘Low Carbon Skies by the airline to reduce carbon emissions from aviation operations.

The airline piloted SAF on a flight between Samui and Bangkok in June 2024.
