EcoCeres signs SAF supply agreement with British Airways

Leading renewable fuels producer EcoCeres announced the signing of a multi-year agreement to supply British Airways with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
“We are proud to partner with British Airways in this strategic agreement to jointly tackle greenhouse gas emissions in aviation. Our commitment to sustainability is unwavering, and this partnership exemplifies our dedication to providing innovative fuel solutions that will help the aviation industry meet its environmental targets,” said Matti Lievonen, CEO of EcoCeres.
This SAF supply is expected to help the UK’s flagship carrier reduce lifecycle carbon emissions of approximately 400,000 metric tonnes.
British Airways has committed to powering 10% of its flights with SAF by 2030.
EcoCeres will provide SAF produced from 100% waste-based biomass feedstock, such as used cooking oil (UCO).
“At British Airways, we see SAF as an important part of our BA Better World strategy. In 2024 alone, SAF accounted for 2.7% of British Airways’ total fuel use and is contributing to our achievement of a 13% reduction in our carbon intensity since 2019. That’s why this new agreement with EcoCeres is so exciting – it’s another important step forward on our journey to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said Carrie Harris, director of sustainability at British Airways.
The airline’s SAF agreement with EcoCeres comes days after US energy major Phillips 66 said it has signed an agreement with British Airways to deliver SAF to the airline for flights departing from California.
In addition to securing SAF commitments, the airline has also invested in projects and technologies to scale SAF. The company has made an investment in UK-based tyre-to-SAF producer Wastefront which is currently building a project in Sunderland.
