Maire awarded engineering study contract for Altalto’s UK SAF project
Milanese technology company Maire announced that NextChem through its subsidiary MyRechemical has been awarded the engineering study contract by Altalto for its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant in Immingham, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.
“This award confirms the validity and flexibility of our technological proposal, which meets the needs of players in the mobility sector, particularly in aviation where decarbonisation is of paramount importance,” said Fabio Fritelli, managing director of NEXTCHEM.
Altalto bagged a grant from the Department for Transport’s Advanced Fuels Fund to progress basic engineering design. The project, Altatlo (Immingham) setup by Velocys, is expected to be operational by 2030.
The company plans to produce 30m litres of SAF per year in the initial phase to be delivered in the UK market in support of the SAF mandate.
The project will source feedstocks from residual municipal solid waste (MSW) and commercial and industrial (C&I) waste.
Maire will provide its NX CircularTM gasification technology to convert waste by generating synthesis gas (syngas), which is subsequently transformed to SynCrude through Velocys’ Fischer-Tropsch technology.
MyRechemical will operate as a technology provider and as coordinator for other technological partners. It will also supply engineering services supported by NEXTCHEM’s NX Engineering District in Catania and involve other sister companies of the MAIRE Group.
