Used cooking oil developer FatHopes Energy has entered in an agreement with NTT DATA Corporation to scale a waste cooking oil collection enterprise application in Japan and thereafter in other markets.

The two firms said that despite SAF being recognised as the key to decarbonising aviation sector, the adoption is challenged by the lack of stable supply of raw materials, efficient collection and distribution, and traceability.

“This collaboration with NTT DATA reflects our commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. By combining our expertise in waste oil collection with advanced digital and AI technologies, we are taking a significant step towards scaling SAF adoption both regionally and globally,” shared Vinesh Sinha, CEO & Founder of FatHopes Energy.

FatHopes Energy said it has leveraged advanced technologies such as IoT-based oil level monitoring and automatic collection notifications in real time via its proprietary digital app stack to improve collection.

As part of this collaboration with NTT DATA, the two will develop a waste oil collection application, allowing businesses to track collection volumes and locations, automatically generate necessary documentation, and streamline certification processes.

The application will be enabled by the use of artificial intelligence with capabilities including:

  • Predicting and optimising collection routes to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
  • Detecting anomalies and ensuring compliance through intelligent monitoring.
  • Delivering real-time insights for recyclers, collectors, and enterprises to make faster, data-driven decisions.

The UCO collected will be will used by FatHopes Energy is to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The company recently partnered with BinZayed Energy for the development of its own SAF refinery in Port Klang, further strengthening its capacity to supply SAFs.

This app-enabled enterprise solution will provide multi-billion-dollar SAF refinery investments with secure and transparent feedstock management, ensuring each refinery operates with a guaranteed supply. By maintaining the highest standards of traceability and accountability, all feedstock can be reliably tracked throughout the supply chain.
