Emerging Fuels Technology licensee Highbury Energy said it is advancing the biomass-to-fuels project in Fort Frances, Ontario alongside Wanagekong-Biiwega’iganan Clean Energy Corporation (WBCEC).

“This game-changing partnership combines Highbury Energy Inc and EFT’s cutting-edge technologies with the strength of ten First Nation communities – backed by all levels of government,” said Highbury’s chief executive officer, Len Bykowski.

The CAD$210m ($151.6m) project will use woody biomass to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) after completing a FEED study.

This facility will produce SAF and renewable diesel using woody biomass and is expected to be commissioned in 2028.

Earlier in February this year, EFT signed a master license agreement with Highbury Energy and a site license with WBCE to for the Ontario site.

The project milestones included process design package (PDP), currently underway, with completion expected in early 2025 while the front-end engineering design (FEED) is expected to follow a financial investment decision (FID) by mid-2025.
