VistaJet commits to carbon neutrality by 2025
VistaJet commits to carbon neutrality by 2025 urging the industry to go further than the current goal of a 50% reduction of emissions by 2050.
In 2020, more than 80% of VistaJet Members offset CO2 emissions relative to their flights’ fuel consumption in partnership with South Pole, a global provider of climate action solutions.
VistaJet also partnered with SkyNRG, one of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) distributors. The partnership is offering all VistaJet customers around the world access to SAF. This, it hopes, will promote substantial reductions in aviation carbon emissions, and increase stable demand.
While offsets and SAF are the current options to reduce its carbon footprint, VistaJet will continue to invest in new developments. It hopes to become the first carbon neutral business aviation operating company by 2025.
Thomas Flohr, founder and chairman of VistaJet, said: “Our model itself is the most effective in focusing on utilization and a shared fleet concept; and adoption of more sustainable aviation fuels, and smarter, more economic aircraft. The industry as a whole must step up to combat climate change and its impact today – it’s the right thing to do and we all have to act now.”
The VistaJet sustainability programme and innovation approach will also serve as a blueprint for all other companies in the Vista Global group and its partners, it said.
Other operators such as NetJets are also pioneering the way with advances in SAF distribution and carbon offsetting programmes. NetJets recently invested in WasteFuel, a next generation waste-to-fuel company that aims to transform landfill waste into SAF.
It has committed to purchasing a minimum of 100m gallons of WasteFuel’s SAF over the next 10 years.
The operator also saw a 61% increase in enrolment in its Blue Skies carbon offset scheme. Blue Skies encourages owners to take responsibility for the environmental impact of their flight by purchasing the equivalent amount of carbon credits to ensure their flight is carbon neutral.
