Denmark awards $1.35m to Vertimass project
Denmark’s Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP) has awarded a Vertimass led project $1.35m to pilot the conversion of green hydrogen and carbon dioxide into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The project consists of Kosan Gas, European Energy, Aalborg University, Port of Aalborg, Aalborg Airport, Hydrogen Valley, and Vertimass. It has a total budget of $2.5m.
Dr Charles Wyman, president and CEO, Vertimass, said: “The conversion of carbon dioxide – a major greenhouse gas contributor – into jet fuel and other hydrocarbons can play a vital role in reducing the carbon footprint for transportation.”
Kosan Gas will sell coproduced renewable LPG; European Energy will convert the carbon dioxide into methanol; Vertimass will convert the methanol into SAF; and Aalborg Airport will sell the SAF.
