Japan working on stricter SAF production rules
Japan is working on developing stricter set of rules for domestic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producers in order to ensure the renewable fuel production contributes to significant greenhouse gas reductions.
A new proposal in , led by Japanese government in consultation with local SAF producer was shared by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Japan has set 10% SAF blending target on jet fuel consumption of domestic airlines by 2030.
The proposal aims to expand the pathways beyond HEFA to explore SAF production through alcohol-to-jet and synthetic fuels.
Much of the announced SAF projects across Japan are focused on utilising HEFA pathway to meet domestic demand.
