Texas-based CVR Energy announced that the company is considering plans to repurpose their Wynnewood, Oklahoma refinery’s renewable diesel production unit towards 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

“Discussions are ongoing through the potential conversion of Wynnewood renewable diesel unit to 100% SAF and we expect to have a development plan together in the next few months for a larger project at coffee bill,” said Dave Lamp, CEO, CVR Energy while answering questions from analysts during the second quarter earnings call.

Commenting on the market dynamics, Lamp said that the market for renewable diesel and SAF remains robust.

“There is significant interest in the market from potential offtakers for SAF, the bid-ask spread remains fairly wide,” added Lamp.

The company processed approximately 12m gallons of vegetable fuel oil through its Wynnewood unit during the second quarter.

Earlier in January, the company said that it also considering to repurpose its Coffeyville refinery in Kansas to produce SAF.
