Phillips 66 announced that their Rodeo site will begin SAF production from the third quarter of 2024.

“We will also start the production of SAF in the third quarter here and continue to offer that. We will offer that to the marketplace in the fourth quarter of this year. The facility will be able to blend up to 20,000 barrels a day of SAF,” said Rich Harbison, head of refining at Phillips 66.

Mark Lashier, CEO, Phillips 66 said that their Rodeo site is currently processing 50,000 barrels per day of renewable feedstocks. He added that the company is also working on transitioning towards lower carbon intensity feedstocks to optimise economic performance.

“We’re well positioned on the West Coast to deliver those renewable fuels all the way out to the retail end-user and we’ll also be producing … SAF,” Lashier added while speaking at the company’s second quarter earnings call.

Phillips 66 announced that it has completed full conversion of the Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex in June earlier this year, increasing the output of renewable fuels to 50,000 barrels per day.

Announced in 2020, Rodeo Renewed is designed to produce renewable diesel and SAF, among other products. In addition to supplying California markets, the complex is providing renewable diesel in other areas along the West Coast.

The Rodeo complex includes new pre-treatment units that process lower carbon intensity feedstocks, such as used cooking oil, fats, greases and vegetable oil.
