German Utility company Uniper adds offtake supply by reserving future production capacity from Syzygy Plasmomics’ NovaSAF platform.

The platform converts biogas into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) via the company’s Rigel photocatalytic reactor.

The agreement acts as further validation for the planned NovaSAF facilities in Central and South America, especially with the company’s first project, NovaSAF-1 in Uruguay nearing Final Investment Decision (FID).

“Uniper’s decision to reserve NovaSAF™ capacity reflects the commercial traction our platform is attracting at the moment when it is most needed to meet mandate volumes,” says Trevor Best, CEO, Syzygy Plasmonics. “Agreements like this affirm that the market is moving to meet EU commission targets and companies like Syzygy have the right product, at the right time, with the right volumes.”

The deal also adds additional capacity to Uniper’s SAF offtake portfolio, which also recently signed an offtake deal with Arcadia eFuels, find that article here.

“Uniper is committed to building a diversified portfolio of low-carbon energy solutions that support our customers’ decarbonization goals,” says Benedikt Messner, SVP new energies, Uniper. “Securing access to Syzygy’s innovative technology is another important step in building our position in a market with significant growth potential.”

This agreement comes as Uniper look to build the company’s low carbon energy portfolio, as aviation demand grows due to increased demand from ReFuelEU and CORSIA.
