Poste Italiane signs SAF purchase agreement with Eni
Italian postal service provider Poste Italiane has signed an agreement with integrated energy firm Eni to purchase biofuels to be used on the company’s air fleet and road transport.
Poste Italiane said the move will help it reduce carbon footprint from its operations.
“For air transport, the collaboration involves the supply of JET A1+Eni Biojet at selected national airports in Italy. The fuel’s SAF component is produced by Enilive from 100% biological sources, and can be blended up to 50% with conventional jet fuel,” said the Eni in a press release.
Eni produces its biofuel (SAF and HVO) by processing waste materials such as used cooking oils, animal fat and by-products from the agri-food industry.
“This collaboration with Enilive marks a new chapter in our integration of ESG principles into our business strategy,” said Giuseppe Lasco, general manager, Poste Italiane.
“It allows us to power our fleet, which is the largest in the country, with biofuels, a solution that will enable us to reduce our use of fossil fuels more and more rapidly. The agreement will support our environmental policies and help drive the reduction of our carbon footprint, contributing to the green transition of the economy.
Earlier in July, Eni, in partnership with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and Euglena reached the final investment decision (FID) to develop a biorefinery at the Petronas’ Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Johor, Malaysia.
The construction of the biorefinery is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, and upon completion, will have the capability to process about 650,000 tonnes per year of raw materials to produce SAF, HVO, and bio-naphtha.
