The Biden-Harris administration announced $2m for airports in Louisiana and Florida to increase capacity for the airports to handle sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The grants are part of a larger $2bn in funding made available to airports across the country to improve airport infrastructure across the country.

The government said it will be providing $1.3m to Houma-Terrebonne Airport Commission in Louisiana. “This grant funds the construction of a 30,000-gallon capacity tank, containment area, and associated facilities and equipment to provide approved Sustainable Aviation Fuel to existing helicopter tenants to enhance sustainability,” said the statement.

Moreover, another $630,000 will be made available for City of Naples Airport Authority in Florida to fund the construction of SAF tank to enhance sustainability at the airport.

This is the fifth round of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, the largest announcement in program history, to funds a variety of projects including airport safety and sustainability improvements among others.

Earlier in August, the Biden administration announced $244.5m in Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition discretionary grants for 25 projects spanning 15 states. Refiners, blenders and infrastructure developers such as World Energy, BP, Marathon Petroleum, World Energy, LanzaJet, Phillips 66 and Gevo were all awarded funds for respective projects.
