Clariant, DS Dansuk team up to for HVO/SAF production in APAC
Specialty chemicals company Clariant entered in a partnership with South Korean circular economy company DS Dansuk to expand the production of its Tonsil RNF series of adsorbents and filter aids.
The move aims to support the growing demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in the Asia Pacific region.
Tonsil RNF series, a high-performance adsorbent used in the pre-treatment process of used cooking oil (UCO), is crucial for removing contaminants and ensuring the efficient production of HVO/SAF. Clariant’s state-of-the-art technology and extensive experience in producing this series will help address the challenges faced in SAF production.
“I’m truly excited about this partnership with DS Dansuk,” said Seong-Wan Park, Clariant’s Head of Exploration APAC, Adsorbents APAC. “Our Tonsil RNF series will play a vital role in overcoming the hurdles in SAF production and contributing to a more sustainable future.”
The Asia Pacific region is witnessing a surge in interest in HVO/SAF due to increasing environmental concerns and regulatory mandates. Clariant’s partnership with DS Dansuk aligns with this trend and demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing sustainable solutions to the market.
Jong-wan Kim, co-CEO of DS Dansuk, expressed confidence in Clariant’s technology and experience. “Based on the success of Clariant’s other sites in Europe and Indonesia, I believe that the commissioning of Tonsil RNF production here will significantly contribute to the ramp-up of HVO/SAF production in Korea,” he stated.
The first batch of Tonsil RNF products from Clariant’s Pohang site is expected to be available as early as October 2024.
With its strong binding power and high adjustability, the product will offer the pre-treatment sector in Asia Pacific the flexibility and performance needed for efficient purification processes, ultimately contributing to CO2 emissions reduction in aviation.
