Vietnamese low-cost airline Vietjet announced that it has successfully operated the first flights in Vietnam using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supplied by Petrolimex Aviation from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Melbourne and Seoul.

SAF, produced from renewable sources, can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional fossil fuels. The successful refuelling and operation of these flights mark a significant milestone for both Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation, as well as the Vietnamese aviation industry.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and Vietnam National Petroleum Group praised the initiative, highlighting its contribution to environmental protection and sustainable development.

Vietjet CEO Đinh Viet Phuong expressed the airline’s commitment to further reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable growth.

Vietjet has partnered with international partners to research, develop, and implement SAF, aligning with Vietnam’s net-zero emissions goal by 2050. As SAF production costs decrease, its broader commercial use is expected to become more viable.
