Greece to unveil domestic SAF plan
Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy is set to unveil a plan for domestic Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, according to reports.
The move is driven by the European Union’s stringent SAF targets, which mandate a specific percentage of SAF to be blended with conventional aviation fuel. To meet these targets, Greece aims to become a domestic producer of SAF.
According to reports, Greece’s deputy minister for environment and energy Alexandra Sdoukou, revealed that the ministry has already sought approval from the EU Directorate-General for Competition to secure state financial support for SAF production investments.
Dimitris Kardomateas, President and General Director of the Center for Renewable Energy Sources (KAPE), emphasized that Greece aims to fulfil the EU’s initial target is a 2% SAF blend by 2025 through SAF imports produced by biofuel plants.
