The Asia Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) was officially launched in Singapore with the goal to accelerate the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across Asia by harmonising policies, enhancing market frameworks, and boosting public awareness.

Supported by industry leaders such as Korean Air, 1PointFive, DHL Group, and Bureau Veritas, ASAFA seeks to position Asia as a global leader in SAF.

The association will focus on key regions including Southeast Asia, South Korea, Japan, India, and China.

“We are placing Asia at the heart of our efforts by driving policies that resolve market inefficiencies, attract investments, and establish SAF as a viable decarbonization option for the aviation industry,” said ASAFA CEO Fabrice Espinosa.

ASAFA’s mission is to build a collaborative ecosystem that addresses the challenges in the SAF value chain. The association will host a range of events, including webinars, workshops, and technical field trips, to advance SAF in Asia.

A significant partnership has been formed between ASAFA and ASTAR, a leading research organization in Singapore. This collaboration will enable members to access ASTAR’s research institutes, facilitating the development and implementation of advanced SAF technologies.

Beyond policy reform, ASAFA will work to enhance market frameworks that support SAF development. By identifying market gaps and aligning interests, the association aims to boost SAF accessibility and economic feasibility across Asia.

To increase public understanding of SAF’s impact, ASAFA will undertake tailored outreach efforts to create a well-informed support base.

The launch event, attended by over 160 industry leaders and policymakers, highlighted ASAFA’s pivotal role in driving sustainable aviation solutions. The association is committed to making SAF a cornerstone of Asia’s aviation industry, contributing to a more sustainable future for air travel across the continent.
