Sinopec delivers SAF at Hong Kong Airport

China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) said it delivered sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) shipment at Hong Kong International Airport.
The company said that “Sheng You 238” vessel, loaded with 500 tonnes of SAF, set sail from Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company (ZRCC) on February 26, heading straight for Hong Kong International Airport.
The SAF was made from renewable resources like animal fats, vegetable oils, and used cooking oil, slashes emissions by more than 50% across its life cycle.
The company also claimed that the shipment was first-ever among Chinese companies into the SAF market outside the Chinese mainland.
Earlier in March, Sinopec announced that it was working with French energy giant TotalEnergies to develop a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production unit at a Sinopec’s refinery in China.
The planned unit, jointly owned by Sinopec and TotalEnergies, will have the capacity to produce 230,000 tons of SAF per year, and will process local waste or residues from the circular economy (cooking oils and animal fats).
The unit will likely use SRJET technology, developed by Sinopec to produce SAF.
