Danish green energy company Skovgaard Energy has teamed up with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to establish a joint venture to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The production will take place in connection with Energy Hub Holstebro, where hydrogen from power-to-x, green energy from Klimapark Nordvestjylland and biogas from Maabjerg Biogas will be used to produce SAF.

“The partnership with Sumitomo Corporation is a crucial step in our strategy to create innovative and scalable solutions within green energy. Their investment and commitment to the project underlines the potential of our technology and approach,” said Bjarke Mollerup Bitsch, director business development at Skovgaard Energy.

Japanese trading and investment firm Sumitomo said it has been closely observing the progress made by Skovgaard Energy and recently visited the company’s power-to-ammonia plant in Klimapark Ramme.

“This project demonstrates how we can integrate renewable energy with industry and the transport sector. SAF plays a central role in reducing aviation’s CO2 footprint, and we see Energy Hub Holstebro as a global reference point for this development,” said Peter A. Han, technical director at Skovgaard Energy.

The partnership is based on a shared ambition to accelerate sector coupling in the green transition.
