Hitachi Energy and Arcadia eFuels have signed an agreement for electrical infrastructure at Arcadia’s eSAF production facility in Vordingborg, Denmark.

The plant will operate entirely on renewable electricity in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) featuring a 240MW on-site green hydrogen production using water electrolysis.

Hitachi will deliver the grid connection and battery energy storage system (BESS) for the facility while also being in charge of the complete electrical system engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning work.

“Hitachi Energy is the perfect partner for Arcadia eFuels. They are experts in system integration, with extensive experience delivering pioneering technology, grid connection and power conversion solutions, while we specialize in producing eSAF,” said Amy Hebert, Arcadia eFuels CEO.

The agreement will ensure electrical provision for the facility to support the production of approximately 80,000 tons of eFuels annually, including eSAF, avoiding an estimated 260,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.

The Vordingborg facility will be the world’s first large-scale Power-to-X plant dedicated to producing eSAF and is expected to be operational before the end of this decade.

“We are proud to collaborate with Arcadia eFuels to deliver the electrical infrastructure for one of the world’s first large-scale eSAF facilities. By enabling reliable operations powered by renewable electricity, we are helping decarbonise aviation and inspire the next era of sustainable energy,” says Marco Berardi, head of grid & power quality solutions and service at Hitachi Energy.
