Iberia onboards four corporates to launch SAF circle
Spanish airline Iberia announced the launch of book and claim programme SAF Circle, to help companies reduce Scope 3 emissions by incorporating sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in their operations.
“We are very proud that these four major companies are joining Iberia to contribute to decarbonisation through the use of SAF. We share a commitment to gradual progress toward decarbonisation, and we can only achieve this goal if we work together,” said Diego Fernández, director of strategy, Transformation and Sustainability at Iberia.
The founding members of the SAF Circle include leading Spanish firms such global travel software programme developer Amadeus, bank BBVA, multinational energy firm Repsol and telecommunications company Telefónica.
All of the founding firms have agreed to use SAF in their operations for emissions reduction in the aviation sector, with an estimated reduction of between 10 and 30% in Scope 3 emissions from companies operating with Iberia.
Iberia said that the SAF Circle members will enjoy benefits such as corporate rewards – part of the airline’s corporate loyalty program.
The SAF Circle will have three different tiers and open to companies of all sizes. Companies participating in the alliance will be certified under the SAF used in the airline’s travel. This SAF is certified according to the sustainability criteria defined by the European Renewable Energy Directive.
