Japanese engineering firm Chiyoda said it has been awarded the project to carry out front-end engineering design (FEED) for Taiyo Oil’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Okinawa.

Taiyo Oil is planning to produce 200,000 kilo litres of SAF and renewable diesel using ethanol to jet pathway.

The site will be located at the Taiyo Oil’s Okinawa site and production is expected to begin from 2030.

The project was qualified for subsidy under the Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s ‘Subsidy for Promotion of Transition to a Decarbonised, Growth-Oriented Economic Structure (SAF Manufacturing and Supply Chain Development Support Project)’.

Chiyoda said it will utilise its nearly 70 years of experience in oil and gas plant engineering to conduct the site’s FEED.

Chiyoda has earlier been involved in development of biofuel EPC project.
