Finnish energy firm Fortum announced signing a letter of intent with Skavsta Logistics and Air Freight to explore the potential of developing a eSAF and Hydrgen hub at the Stockholm Skavsta Airport.

The two aim to develop the airport as the hub for clean energy and low-carbon aviation by building a 100,000 square metres on the airport’s western terminal zone. The site is currently undergoing detailed spatial planning with cooperation of the Nyköping Municipality.

As part of the agreement, Fortum is granted access to the site during this planning phase, allowing it to carry out technical, commercial and regulatory assessments before any binding investment decisions are taken.

The airport is a owned by the Swedish real-estate company, Arlandastad Group, with 90.1 % of the shares and the Municipality of Nyköping owns  9.9 % of the shares.

The interest comes after the European Union announced the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP) with dedicated budget for eSAF including support for capital expenditure and offtake agreements.
