UK announces £43m for green aviation
The UK government announced an additional £43m funding for green projects to help aviation decarbonisation.
“We’re backing UK businesses by powering up green aviation. Our £43m investment will deliver the cutting-edge technology of the future, grow the economy and support highly skilled jobs as part of our mission to deliver national renewal,” said UK’s transport secretary, Heidi Alexander.
“Zero emission aircraft, hydrogen fuels and other emerging technologies are vital to reduce the climate impacts from flying and will enable us to deliver our airport expansion plans to boost connectivity and grow the economy.”
Commenting on the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the government said this funding announcement is in addition to the £m earmarked to accelerate SAF production plants.
“We know that aviation is one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonise and, as we continue on the road to net zero by 2050, industry action combined with government investment are required,” said Duncan McCourt, chief executive of Sustainable Aviation.
The July announcement last year announced funding for 17 UK companies developing sustainable aviation fuel to receive share of new £63m boost.
