Argentinian Aluminum producer Aluar and Germany sustainable projects developer GreenSinnergy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the exploration of CO2 capture and valorisation at Aluar’s primary aluminum production plant in Puerto Madryn, Chubut Province, Argentina.

Ismael Retuerto, co-developer of the project, said that the initiative represents “a clear case of industrial integration and the concrete application of circular economy principles, in which waste is transformed and revalued until it becomes a valuable resource for another production chain. This type of approach,” he added, “enables new technological capabilities, promotes the generation of specialized employment, and contributes to strengthening the industrial ecosystem of Chubut and the region.”

The two companies plan to explore the use of captured CO2 as an input in the production of SAF within the Eco-Refineries of the South (ERS) project, led by GreenSinnergy and local co-developers.

The project will integrate state-of-the-art power-to-liquid technologies to produce SAF from green hydrogen and captured CO2. The resulting SAF could reduce net CO2 emissions by more than 90% over its lifecycle compared to conventional fossil kerosene.

This MoU lays the foundation for future technological cooperation agreements that will consolidate the region as a leading center for advanced sustainable solutions.
