Neste today opened an innovation centre in Singapore.

The centre will support the launch of its renewable products refinery in Singapore. It is due to open in the first quarter 2023.

“We are delighted to open the APAC Innovation Centre, which creates a framework for world-class raw material research also in the Asia-Pacific and supports our growth in the region,” says Lars Peter Lindfors, executive vice president, innovation at Neste. “The Innovation Centre drives collaboration with our network in the Asia-Pacific region including academia, research institutions as well as industry players.”

Neste plans to produce 1m tons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Singapore from 2024. It says that 20 researchers and staff are already working in the centre.

About 25% of Neste’s total team works in research, product development and engineering. The company spent Eu85m on this in 2022. Neste has researched more than 2,000 renewable raw material samples and been awarded 2,000 patents. The Technology centre in Porvoo, Finland employs more than 1000 staff.

“This will drive closer collaboration with its regional partners to unlock new possibilities for renewable fuels and chemicals. The project will also contribute to Singapore’s efforts to grow as a hub for sustainable products and innovation in decarbonisation technologies,” says Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Chairman, Singapore Economic Development Board.
