Kent awarded FEED contract for Fulcrum BioEnergy’s UK SAF project

Engineering and project management company Kent has secured front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for Fulcrum BioEnergy’s NorthPoint sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project.

Fulcrum BioEnergy, US clean energy company, is spearheading the NorthPoint project.

The first-of-its-kind commercial venture in the UK aims to convert 600,000 tonnes of pre-processed waste into a substantial 100m litres of SAF annually.

Kent’s role in this project builds on a prior successful collaboration with Fulcrum, where they provided valuable study work in the UK. Fulcrum’s NorthPoint project has received a significant boost with the allocation of a UK government grant under the Advanced Fuels Fund.

“We are thrilled to be entrusted with the FEED contract for this project … Our experience in waste-to-fuels further solidifies our position as a reliable partner in sustainable energy projects,” said Usman Darr, managing director of engineering, Kent.

Under the FEED contract, Kent will provide comprehensive engineering services, cost estimates and identify crucial long lead procurement items.

Additionally, they will manage the involvement of multiple licensors and plan the project’s execution to support the tendering process for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phases ultimately paving the way for the project to reach a positive financial investment decision (FID).

Kent will be responsible for designing process plant units, essential utilities, third-party connection points, and the facility that will receive the waste feedstock.
