Brazil’s food company JBS said it has supplied waste from its operations towards production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), said the company.

“By reusing animal waste, we contribute to the environment and help this critical sector in its decarbonization process,” said Jason Weller, global chief sustainability officer, JBS.

The meatpacking company said that over the last two years, the company has supplied 1.2m metric tons of beef tallow and pork lard in the US, Canada and Australia to be used in the production of SAF and other renewable fuels.

The company further said that it is exploring a similar initiative in Brazil through the Friboi brand.
