SkyNRG, Skellefteå Kraft announce eSAF project in Sweden

SkyNRG and Skellefteå Kraft, one of Sweden’s largest renewable energy producers, today announced a partnership to develop eSAF project at Skellefteå in Northern Sweden with production capacity of 100,000 tonnes.
“It’s an exciting time for SkyNRG as we develop our portfolio of SAF projects. We are proud to be partnering with Skellefteå Kraft, as our complementary skills and shared sustainability vision make this a unique location for eSAF production,” said Philippe Lacamp, CEO, SkyNRG.
The two partners said that they selected Skellefteå as the project’s location due to its abundant renewable energy resources and access to biogenic CO2. The project will have access to nearly 100% renewable energy supplied by Skellefteå Kraft from hydro and wind power, enabling continuous and cost-efficient eSAF production. Moreover, Sweden also holds the largest potential for biogenic CO2 in Europe and the project will benefit from Skellefteå region’s industrial scale.
The companies have already secured a site at the Port of Skellefteå and is slated to commence operations around 2030.
“We are excited to partner with SkyNRG on this pioneering project, showcasing the potential of eFuels for aviation,” said Joachim Nordin, CEO, Skellefteå Kraft.
Project SkyKraft is expected to contribute to the Municipality of Skellefteå’s sustainable development goals by decarbonising aviation and creating new economic opportunities.
The project also aligns with the European ReFuelEU SAF blending mandate and the UK’s blending mandate, which require airlines to blend SAF into jet fuel.
