Japanese energy firm ENEOS Corporation announced the launch of its own sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) book and claim service powered by Shell’s Avelia blockchain solution, allowing airlines and corporates in Japan to purchase environmental attributes of SAF, reducing their carbon footprint.

By using Avelia, ENEOS aims to address the supply chain constraints and high costs associated with physical SAF.

The book and claim service enables customers to decouple the environmental attributes of SAF from its physical form, allowing them to claim carbon reductions without the need for direct SAF delivery.

ENEOS’ partnership with Shell Aviation is a significant step towards decarbonising the aviation industry. SAF can reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

By making SAF’s environmental attributes available to airlines and corporates, ENEOS is providing a solution for reducing their Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions.

ENEOS is actively building an integrated SAF supply chain, from raw material procurement to manufacturing and sales. This comprehensive approach ensures a stable supply of SAF and supports the aviation industry’s net-zero emission goals.
