Darling Ingredients, partners to supply SAF in Florida
US-based Darling Ingredients, a global leader in turning food waste into sustainable products, announced today that its joint venture, Diamond Green Diesel (DGD), will supply the first regular supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Florida.
Through an agreement with World Fuel Services and DHL Express, DGD will provide over 60m gallons of blended SAF over two years. Of this, 18m gallons will be neat SAF, which is produced from used cooking oil and food waste.
The SAF is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2024, and DGD’s Port Arthur plant will have the capacity to produce SAF for approximately 50% of its annual production.
“As we continue expanding Diamond Green Diesel’s SAF sales book, we’re not only increasing market reach but also driving a meaningful shift toward a more sustainable energy landscape,” said Randall C. Stuewe, chairman and CEO at DGD.
“We feel good about where we’re headed — not just in growing our SAF contracts, but in the completion and startup of DGD’s SAF operations, which remain on track for fourth quarter. DGD continues to be the lowest-cost, most profitable producer in the market, reinforcing our commitment to delivering both environmental and economic value.”
DHL Express customers can now opt for emission-reduced air transportation services through DHL GoGreen Plus, which utilises this sustainable fuel. The logistics firm has signed multiple SAFc agreements with customers around the world including Google, Standard Chartered, Prada, Formula 1 etc. for its GoGreen Plus programme.
DGD’s SAF is certified by International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC).
DGD is a joint venture between Valero and Darling Ingredients.
