SAF feedstock terminal expansion near completion: Kinder Morgan
Leading US energy infrastructure company Kinder Morgan, specialising in oil and gas pipelines and terminals, said that it is nearing completion on its latest expansion of its industry-leading RD and SAF feedstock storage and logistics offering at its lower Mississippi River hub.
The company shared the update in its third quarter 2024 financial results announcement.
“We are devoting approximately 86% of our project backlog to lower-carbon energy investments, including 83% to conventional natural gas, and the remainder to renewable natural gas (RNG), renewable diesel (RD), feedstocks associated with RD and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as well as carbon capture and sequestration,” said Kim Dang, CEO, Kinder Morgan.
The company said the scope of work at its Geismar River Terminal in Geismar, Louisiana includes construction of multiple tanks totalling approximately 250,000 barrels of heated storage capacity as well as various marine, rail and pipeline infrastructure improvements.
The approximately $54m Geismar River Terminal project is supported by a long-term commercial commitment and is expected to be in service by the fourth quarter of 2024.
Earlier in May 2023, Kinder Morgan announced commercial in-service of its renewable feedstock storage and logistics hub project with Neste.
The company said that Neste will store a variety of raw materials like used cooking oil, which it collects from more than 80,000 restaurants across the United States, at Kinder Morgan’s Harvey Terminal in Harvey, Louisiana to be used as feedstock in the production of renewable fuels and plastics.
