VTTI, Connex to develop SAF feedstock pretreatment facility

VTTI and Connex have announced plans to develop a renewable feedstock pretreatment facility at VTTI’s terminal in Amsterdam.
The facility will process over 400,000 tons of renewable feedstock per year to enable the production of sustainable fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The Greenstock Pretreatment Facility (GPF) will offer customers flexibility in aggregating, blending, and full pretreatment services for a wide range of renewable feedstocks. The facility is expected to be operational by 2027.
The partnership combines the market and technology capabilities of Connex with the energy infrastructure development, logistics, and storage experience of VTTI. Connex will provide renewable feedstocks, while VTTI will offer storage and handling services.
The facility will operate using the latest technologies for energy efficiency and sustainability. It is currently being prepared for permitting and construction.
The project is part of VTTI’s commitment to having half of its earnings come from transitional and sustainable energy sources by 2028. It also supports the Port of Amsterdam’s goal to be one of the most sustainable ports in Europe by 2030.
This partnership demonstrates the growing importance of sustainable fuels and the need for infrastructure and technology to support their production.
Earlier in May, Finnish refiner Neste announced that it has partnered with VTTI and commissioned terminal capacity at the VTTI’s ETT terminal for storage and blending of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
