Ørsted pulls out of Green Fuels for Denmark SAF project: Report

Danish multinational energy giant Ørsted has decided to withdraw from the Green Fuels for Denmark project, according to a report published by Danish newspaper Børsen.
Ørsted was one of the many investors in the Copenhagen-based power-to-liquid project including Copenhagen Airport, SAS, DFDS and Moller-Maersk.
The project, announced in 20204, was scheduled to begin production in 2025.
“We still think that the vision behind Green Fuels for Denmark is good. However, it is no longer the right match for Ørsted, as we focus on our core business, which is wind energy with green hydrogen as a relevant and complementary technology,” the Børsen report quoted Robert Duncalf, head of Europe business development at Ørsted as saying.
The company said the decision to pull out of the project was part of Ørsted’s strategy to lower its investment in the renewable fuels production across Northern Europe.
The project, which received DKK 600m in state aid in 2022, will continue with the other partners.
Ørsted has withdrawn from several major projects this year, including a large hydrogen project in Jutland, Denmark.
The company has been advocating for increased usage of hydrogen in aviation to help the sector decarbonise the sector.
