Moeve supplies SAF to Norwegian

Spanish energy firm Moeve (formerly known as Cepsa) announced it has successfully supplied sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Norwegian Airlines during the months of November and December 2024.

The deliveries are a part of an agreement between the two firms which will ensure Moeve continues to supply SAF to Norwegian to be used for flights from Las Palmas airport in Spain to Nordic countries, primarily Norway and Sweden, as well as Denmark.

“At Moeve, we agree with the widespread industry view that SAF is the only immediate solution for achieving more sustainable aviation. We are proud to supply SAF on a permanent basis at Spain’s major airports, and this latest supply contract with Norwegian is a crucial step in reducing CO2 emissions across the industry,” said Álvaro Macarro, director of sustainable aviation, Moeve.

Moeve produces SAF at its La Rábida Energy Park (Huelva) from used cooking oils. The company already supplies SAF at Spain’s main airports.

To further bolster is SAF production capacity, Moeve is building flexible production capacity of 0.5m metric tons of SAF and renewable diesel that will form part of the largest second-generation biofuels complex in southern Europe when it begins operation in 2026.

With this project, the company will be the le adding 2G biofuels producer in Spain and Portugal, with an annual production capacity of 2.5m metric tons of biofuels by 2030, of which 800,000 metric tons will be from SAF.

Overall, during the year 2024, Moeve delivered 14,400 tonnes of SAF in to various airlines.
