Dublin-based Future Energy Global said it has successfully concluded first transaction on the recently-launched International Air Transport Association (CADO) SAF Registry with the delivery to Microsoft of a first tranche of SAF Scope 3 certificates derived from Cathay Pacific Airways’ purchases of sustainable aviation fuel.

The transaction will support Microsoft’s ongoing drive to reach net zero emissions by 2030.

Future Energy Global works with airlines to source SAF and to develop markets in SAF credits.

Future Energy Global is a member of the first cohort of IATA SAF Registry users as well as a certified Book and Claim trader with both RSB and ISCC.

“We’re delighted with our first transaction on the IATA SAF Registry,”  said Future Energy Global CEO Natasha Mann. “Our purpose in Future Energy Global is to scale SAF production by building a collaborative ecosystem involving all aviation stakeholders.  We’re proud to have designed this Scope 3 certificate transaction which has brought together Microsoft, Cathay Pacific, and the IATA SAF Registry.”

The IATA announced the official launch of the SAF Registry, now under the management of the Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) in April this year.

The IATA said the goal of SAF Registry was to provide a standardised and transparent system to record SAF transactions, ensuring the environmental benefits of SAF are traceable throughout the value chain. This allows airlines and corporate customers to accurately claim these benefits against regulatory obligations and voluntary schemes, effectively preventing double counting.
