DHL Express has expanded its sustainable business services available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with GoGreen Plus worldwide. The service allows customers to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for the transport of their deliveries.

The service was initially launched in the UK in February, with bp and Nestes supplying the global postal service with SAF. Now, customers based in any country have the option to select GoGreen Plus when choosing their shipping preferences using the company’s online shipping and tracking platform.

Greg Hewitt, CEO, DHL Express US said that the move was in part driven by increasing demand for environmentally friendly products and services for businesses. “We take pride in assisting our customers as they build more sustainable supply chains, and in offering guidance to SMEs that may lack the necessary means to take that first sustainability leap on their own,” he said.

The service expansion follows the company’s recent survey of nearly 2,500 SMEs looking at how businesses prioritise sustainability. Of all respondents, 95% said sustainability is “important” to their business and almost half (48%) said that it is “extremely important”.

However, when asked about the biggest challenge to achieving sustainable goals, 42% said the overall investment is the main obstacle and 11% said they had “no clue where to start”.

“We know our customers are committed to reducing their environmental impact so it’s important we’re giving them the means to do so,” said John Pearson, DHL Express. “SAF is currently the primary route to reducing carbon emissions in aviation, so this is the most effective way to help our customers make their own supply chains more sustainable.”
