Otsuka Pharmaceuticals announced that the company will join Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) programme to reduce carbon emissions as a shipper of Yusen Logistics.

The company said that the use of SAF in its operations will help it reduce Scope 3 emissions. Otsuka, one of the country’s top pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and consumer markets company, said that it has already done various efforts to reduce its scope 1 and 2 emissions.

The company said that this collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will help it reduce environmental impact from a more comprehensive perspective.

This will be the first time that the Otsuka Group will use SAF to transport products from Japan to overseas.

Earlier in January, Yusen Logistics, with whom the pharmaceutical company has partnered on SAF, joined Korean Air to increase the usage of SAF in the cargo operations.

The airline signed a SAF Cooperation Program Agreement with Yusen Logistics at the company’s headquarters in Tokyo.
