DB Schenker, Microsoft to tackle air emissions with SAF
Global logistics giant DB Schenker and Microsoft Cloud Logistics have announced their collaboration to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for all Microsoft Cloud Logistics United US inbound air shipments.
“Our cooperation is expected to demonstrate that significant CO2e-savings are feasible already in today’s intercontinental supply chains,” Jochen Thewes, CEO, DB Schenker.
The companies, in a joint statement, said the collaboration also includes building resource-saving logistics SuperHubs and implementing alternative fuel trucks. DB Schenker will procure SAF. The company will also purchase sustainable marine fuel (SMF) to tackle shipping emissions.
“Our collaboration with DB Schenker has enabled the development of cutting-edge sustainable warehouses along with innovative fuel strategies across all modes of freight, exemplifying our dedication to setting industry standards in the logistics environmental sustainability arena,” said Cliff Henson, CVP of Microsoft Cloud Supply Chain.
Earlier in July, DB Schenker joined Cathay Pacific’s Corporate SAF programme to significantly cut carbon emissions for cargo shipments.
DB Schenker’s committed to buy 878 tonnes of SAF (290,000 gallons) to strengthen their existing sustainability efforts, which began in 2020 with using SAF for a portion of their air cargo transport.
