German decarbonisation company GreenSinnergy has announced plans to set up 100,000t per annum sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the southern province of Chubut in Argentina.

In the first phase, the firm plans to invest $2.5bn in the project but has also announced plans to increase the production capacity further by 500,000t per annum with additional investment of $6bn in total, according to reports by local media.

The project, titled Eco-Refinerías del Sur, will also include green hydrogen production using the region’s wind resources using carbon dioxide.

First phase of the project is expected to begin SAF production from 2030 onwards.

“Global demand for SAF is experiencing exponential growth, driven by government regulations and the ambitious decarbonization commitments made by the world’s leading airlines,” Carlos Villalba, GreenSinnergy project manager, was quoted as saying.
