Mercedes signs 13,000 tonnes SAF purchase agreement with DB SCHENKER

German automobile giant Mercedes has signed an agreement for the purchase of 13,000 tonnes of SAF with global logistics giant DB SCHENKER.
“Mercedes-Benz has placed the largest single-volume order for SAF by a DB SCHENKER customer. The record agreement reduces the global automotive company’s CO2e emissions by 40,000 tons through the procurement of around 13,000 tons of SAF. The biofuel is accredited for export air freight shipments from Frankfurt to Beijing and Shanghai,” said DB SCHENKER in a statement.
The two firms have already partnered on SAF. DB SCHENKER launched the world’s first regular cargo flight covered by SAF in 2021, Mercedes-Benz was among the initial customers.
The logistics company has been procuring SAF since 2020 to help clients decarbonise. The company helps its customers decarbonise scope 3 emissions.
Earlier in September, DB Schenker and Microsoft Cloud Logistics entered in an agreement to use SAF on all Microsoft Cloud Logistics United US inbound air shipments.
The companies, in a joint statement, said the collaboration also includes building resource-saving logistics SuperHubs and implementing alternative fuel trucks. DB Schenker will procure SAF. The company will also purchase sustainable marine fuel (SMF) to tackle shipping emissions.
