Japanese oil major Cosmo Oil signed a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply agreement with Starlux Airlines to promote sustainable aviation.

“Starlux is committed to realising the ideals of sustainable aviation and is always interested in innovative technology and sustainability… We will continue to gradually increase the usage rate of SAF and aim to become a role model for sustainable development in the global aviation industry,” said Starlux Airlines chief strategy officer Liu Yunfu.

The  SAF will be produced by Saffaire Sky Energy, a joint venture established by Cosmo Oil, JGC Holdings Corporation and Revo International, and is scheduled to be supplied to Starlux Airlines at Kobe Airport through the Cosmo Energy Group in fiscal 2025.

“As one of our carbon-neutralizing products, SAF is an important product that will lead to carbon-neutralization of the skies, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to the decarbonization of STARLUX Airlines, which has a global network. We will continue to support the realization of a carbon-neutral society through the use of SAF, including through this initiative,” said Naoki Takayama, president and CEO, Cosmo Oil Marketing.
